Our donkey farm began with the braying of one lonely little donkey. While returning from church one evening, I hear the sounds of hoofs behind me and then a sad little bray followed. In the field beside the church parking lot stands a long eared little donkey. He begs for my attention. For several evenings,I continued to pet and feed my new friend. Due to his strong nature and determined will, I appropriately named him Samson. It wasn't long until I had talked my husband into contacting the owner. After a short negotiation, Samson was soon in a trailer head for his new home. However, as all donkey owners know, a story never ends there. A single donkey needs companionship. That was only the beginning of our donkey purchases. Now, we currently have a small herd of donkeys with expectations of future growth. -D.

 

Why Miniature Donkeys?

It's a 'Character' thing! Every donkey has their own distinct personality. They are highly intelligent, comical and extremely playful. As life continues to become more complex, nothing can relax you quicker than spending a few minutes with the personalities of the herd. They have a well defined social structure that can provide hours of entertainment. They are kind, docile and love people. Unlike a horse, a miniature donkey is more likely to run to you than from you. Miniature donkeys are very social animals and they actively seek the attention of people and other donkeys. Within the herd, they will develop a "buddy system" with other herd members. For those who spend a few minutes with the herd, these clicks can easily be visible. If your still asking "Why miniature donkeys?", then we suggest that you take a few minutes to visit with a herd near you. We promise, it will not take long before the answer is evident.

About Us             

We are J&D Half Donkeys Homestead. We breed and sell registered miniature donkeys. We are a small miniature donkey farm located in the beautiful mountain valleys of Eastern Tennessee. We are located in town of New Market, which is 30 minutes northeast of Knoxville, Tennessee. Our breeding program consist of a brown and white spot named Meatball along with a young black jack named Noah. Both of our jacks are of small stature. Our mature brown and white spot stands at only 31 inches. He has proven his consistency to produce small, spotted jennet foals. At 1 year of age, our young black jack stands at 30.5 inches. Our brood herd consist of Grey-Duns, Brown (Chocolate) and Spots jennets. We are looking forward to a variety of future foals. We interact with them daily thus all are very tame and easily handled. This simple practice also allows us to properly imprint our foals at birth. By nature, a miniature donkey is more likely to run to you where a horse may run from you.

March 2010 - Halter training and Spring cleaning for the barn.

October 2009 - Introduction of Itty Bitty Noah as future herd sire.

April 2009 - Birth of Tuesday Dew - Our farms first born.
